“Nourishment”
I am a tender green plant, gently rising out of the rich, dark soil
carefully tended
watered the perfect amount
to feed and honor my growth.
I am reaching to the sun and sky
breathing
stretching
now basking in the Light
I am relaxed, sensuous, complete.

The sensitive and spiritual photographer Minor White, the deeply reflective and expressive painter Mark Rothko, and the expansively loving nature and soul poet Mary Oliver: all have spoken of nourishment as a necessity for our spirits, bodies, and minds. They understood it as an essential element of our creative practice and for living full lives.
Of course! How can we attune to our deepest feelings, honor the soul of our work, and inspire others through our art if we’re depleted, worn out, and missing connection to Soul?
“Inspire” - “Inspiratus” - from the Latin root meaning “to breathe into.” I discovered recently that the original Greek term literally means “god-breathed.”
“God-breathed.” I am charmed by the image of healers, artists, spiritual leaders, lovers, (and you?) throughout the world breathing the beauty, joy and mystery of life into all who desire it.

What does Nourishment mean to you?
How do you feel it, envision it, allow it in your life?
Are you aware of its importance…or do you believe
being parched in the desert is more noble?
How would your creative practice flow
if it came from a source of fullness, relaxation,
and being exquisitely fed?
Pause now. Close your eyes…take a breath…relax your body. Imagine being nourished.
Let an image come to mind…or an experience from the past…a desire for the future. Notice the details, the light, the movement, and the exquisite feeling that comes from being nourished.
Let the positive feelings of this be felt everywhere in your body. Create more of the experience, or try a new image; hold the space of this and enjoy. Give yourself the gift of nourishment here and now.
Just allowing the vibration of it can change your outlook and your body’s ability to relax and enjoy the moment.

There are many forms of nourishment.
Some of my favorites:
the right book
the conversation that shares feelings, vulnerability, joys
overcoming challenges and hurts, celebrating life
the restaurant with the golden light, the shimmer of glassware
the art, the heart-filled server and of course
the exquisite food that warms your soul
the partner or friend who gets you
the vista of ocean, mountain, cityscape, desert that thrills
laughter

If you are feeling battered, thrown about by the constant barrage of news these days…pause, reflect, and allow goodness.
Consciously turn towards those people, things, and experiences that give you pleasure, engage your mind, and return you to your personal intentions in the essence of living. Balance and ground your being by feeding the Soul of your work and your life.
Nourishment.
A foundation for shining your Light.
